More and more riders are realising the time, effort and money required to produce a dressage horse, eventer, showjumper or versatile sporthorse and thus the demand for well bred, rideable & trainable horses with quality movement is increasing.
Dressage NZ with the assistance of Northland’s Julian Aaron, Sponsorship Manager for the 2010 NZ Pony & Young Rider Championships, is developing the Dressage NZ “Stable of Stallions” programme with the aim of offering the sport and the breeders an alliance which will be mutually beneficial.
The programme is initially intended to support the 2010 NZ Pony & Young Rider Championships and the Bates Nationals in the first year and will be developed from there with breeders and the sport working together.
Response from the studs has exceeded all our expectations and so the number of stallions in the Dressage NZ stable will be greater than anticipated with more possibly to sign up. Already there two German imported pony stallions in the stable, Davidoff (KM Performance Ponies – Morrinsville) & Hilkens Denali (AD Pony Stud- Hamilton) plus the big boys, Vollrath Lessing the 2008 Astek Stud Young Dressage Horse Champion from the Wanganui based Vollrath Hanoverian Stud; the multi-discipline champion, Don Quattro, the 2007 Horsepower 4yr Dressage Champion & 2008 National Young Event Horse (owned by Sixtus Performance Horses – Napier), the Waikato based Trakehner Holme Park Flute of the Devorow Stud who is consistently producing top class performers in all disciplines, Damontez LS from the Matamata Starlight Farm Sport Horse Stud who are producing quality progeny for both dressage and showjumping, Kinnordy Gym Bello (two services) from the Astek Stud who already generously sponsor the Astek Stud Young Dressage Horse Championship, “Classic Z” the 2004 Holsteiner standing at the mid Canterbury Brackley Farm, Griffyndor , the Hanoverian Gymnastik Star sire based at the Gurteen Stud in Canterbury and competing Level 4, Chrialka Zibu from Hawkes Bay based Chrialka Warmbloods at Whakamarumaru Station (Zibu based in Matamata), Donnerubin DC, the exciting first year sire based at the Chevaux Dansants Stables in Feilding, the Albany basedNorth Park Equestrian based beautiful black stallion Doringcourt, already competing successfully with owner/rider Andrea Bank, and last but not least Prestige VDL the well performed small tour sire who competed so well against Australia’s best at the Sydney CDI 2009 in the hands of owner/rider Lisa Blackbourn from Kumeu, Anamour the prolific sire of so many successful dressage horses in NZ based in the Manawatu and Appleton DHU the Dutch Warmblood who has recently been NZWB approved, Manawatu based, and the Albany based Limonit, already a national title holder and now beingsuccessfully competed at Level 5 by Andrea Bank.
A number of these sires will also appeal to mare owners wishing to produce showjumpers, eventers and versatil sporthorses.
Each stud owner has generously donated a service of the specified stallion to Dressage NZ. Each stud’s own service contact & agreement will apply. The studs require the purchaser to pay as normal any costs incurred by the stud to the stud (eg collection, booking fee, freight, agistment as per their individual agreements) but Dressage NZ will benefit from the balance of the proceeds. Each stud owner has generously permitted Dressage NZ to sell the service at $200 (incl GST) below the list price.
So if you are looking to breed a horse to sell, or keep in your stable, check out the Dressage NZ Stable of Stallions in the first instance and support this exciting new concept whilst saving some valuable dollars at the same time !
